Dwayne Haggins primarily plays in Massachusetts and across the East Coast. However, he is coming to Colorado during the month of April for not one, but two shows! He first became inspired to play the guitar in 2016 after watching Sturgill Simpson appear on Conan O’Brien’s talk show, teaching himself to play and eventually mustering the courage to go to an open mic. After performing at the open mic, he realized that performing live truly inspired him. He started playing at more open mics, then gigs, then more gigs, to the point where he can now be a musician full-time.
Along with Simpson, Haggins credits his two favorite artists, Delaney Bramlett and Leon Russell, as huge influences for his musicianship, connecting with Bramlett’s voice and Russell’s presence on stage. He also connects to the material of Doc Watson, Mississippi John Hurt, Ray Charles, and Sam Cooke, along with other soul and country blues artists.
Haggins will be performing with Ahren Shreeve for both shows. The two started playing together in 2019 and haven’t looked back since. They occasionally play covers of traditional songs, but they mostly play their own originals. Even though Haggins writes and plays music for himself, he loves being able to share it with an audience and allow them to connect with the music in their own ways. He emphasizes that each show might bring out a different side of each song, and to him, it brings the songs to life.
You can stream Dwayne Haggins’s originals wherever you listen to music, and you can learn more about Haggins at his website, dwaynehaggins.com. Be sure to check out Haggins performing live on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Jamestown Mercantile, 108 Main Street in Jamestown, and/or on Saturday, April 29 at 7 p.m. at the Gold Hill General Store and Pub, 531 Main Street in Gold Hill.
