Dear Editor,
I just had a long conversation with Agent Padia concerning two more lion attacks on dogs in the last two days. Here is the posting that was placed this morning, December 26, on our FB page:
We are concerned in this community about a rogue/ sick Lion that is very brazen, and want to address the situation before it becomes more tragic. As I told Joe on the phone, the press has already started to cover this situation, even a paper in California. We as a community have taken to create a “tracker” to try to inform one another of recent attacks – not sightings, but attacks – and where they are occurring. Here is that link: https://www.wildlifetracker colorado.com/?fbclid=IwAR0gO7ZGZvZgW4kev- Dvu9YNj2rl6Go5aDg5CLUyh9P1_qqGjBa L97bXhjg
We are trying to get the word out to people to contact you folks ASAP but that isn’t always happening. It really would be helpful if we didn’t have to take the initiative to keep the information coming from just us, but look to you in support of what is becoming a real threat to public safety in this area. Young children in this area are way smaller than the dogs being taken. Hopefully, something can be done before we lose more animals – or worse, a young child.
The dogs taken recently in the last few weeks include a 100-lb Doberman and a Great Pyrenees, both very large animals.
Respectfully,
Peter James
