Mountain Girl Pickles, founded by “Head Pickle Maker” Laraina James, has been honored with two prestigious Good Food Awards in recognition of its exceptional quality, flavor, and commitment to sustainability.

The awards, presented annually by the Good Food Foundation, celebrate the finest food and drink products from across the United States. Mountain Girl Pickles received the accolades for its signature Pickled Beets and Giardiniera. These two varieties stood out among thousands of entries for their outstanding taste, high-quality ingredients, and artisanal production methods. The company has previously won awards for its Corn Relish in 2022 and Pickled Okra in 2023.

“We are incredibly proud to receive these awards,” James said. “Our team is passionate about creating delicious, handcrafted pickles using local, sustainably sourced ingredients. This recognition from the Good Food Foundation validates our efforts and inspires us to continue pushing the boundaries of flavor and quality.”

“These pickles are basically the same ones my grandmother made,” James insists. She adds, “My first canning memories are of my Dad making strawberry jam.”

Nine years ago, James was working at the late, lamented Sundance Café. Customers loved the pickles she made for the café’s Bloody Marys so much they asked to buy them. That’s how Mountain Girl Pickles was born.

Since 2014, it has slowly expanded into a nationally distributed artisan product. Mountain Girl Pickles has built a loyal following since its inception, thanks to its dedication to quality and innovation. The company sources its cucumbers and other produce from local farms in Colorado, ensuring the freshest ingredients for its pickles. James combines traditional pickling methods with unique spice blends to create bold, memorable flavors.

The Good Food Awards celebrate products that are not only delicious but also socially responsible and environmentally friendly. Each entry undergoes a rigorous judging process, including blind taste tests by esteemed food experts. The awards highlight producers who prioritize sustainable agriculture, ethical sourcing, and fair labor practices.

Mountain Girl Pickles are available online and at the Boulder and Longmont Farmers Markets as well in stores across Colorado including McGuckin Hardware, Black Cat Farm Stand, Hazel’s Beverage World, Lucky’s Market, Mountain Fountain, Moxie Bread Company and Natural Grocers.

You will also find James at the Nederland Farmer’s Market all summer.
