BLACK HAWK -- Brothers Luke and Heath Weaver founded the Christian metalcore band Finding Neverland in 2012, with Luke on guitar and Heath on vocals. Luke was previously involved with the band Gentlemen Speak Up, which he played in during his time at Georgia Southern.
After moving to Colorado Springs in 2011, Luke and Heath formed the new band. Heath and another member ultimately decided to step away from music, and the band went on hiatus in 2015.
James Carnes went to high school with both of the brothers, and while attending CU Boulder, Luke learned that Carnes had always wanted to try music. The two ultimately revived Finding Neverland in 2019 with Carnes as the new vocalist.
The band is currently based in Black Hawk. Luke permanently moved to the Peak-to-Peak area in 2018, with his family already connected to the area. Carnes moved to Central City after graduating from CU Boulder, having fallen in love with the area.
For the most part, the band has performed shows in downtown Denver, but they hope to build a following in the mountains. They hope to join more community events and public service as individuals, and they also hope to get people excited about the mission of the band, which is to share the gospel through metalcore.
Carnes and the other band members have focused on metalcore and performing the kind of music they love the most. They don’t feel that performing the music is “satanic,” but rather that embracing the music they love while glorifying God and sharing the gospel with their audiences.
In particular, Carnes has found that their music connects with people, whether they embrace faith or are searching for it, and they love being able to introduce metalcore to those who perhaps wouldn’t have listened to it on their own.
Pursuing sobriety and finding faith, Carnes has found music incredibly healing for him. He has been sober since July 2020, and pursuing music as a career has allowed him to embrace his faith and community.
The group loves the mountain area in particular, and they hope they can share their story and connect with their audiences and build that connection in the area. Their band name comes from the idea of discovering heaven, and they hope they can share that with their audiences.
