The Train Cars. At 101 Highway 119, at the entrance of the Caribou Village Shopping Center, stand three distinct pieces of American history, as old as 150 years, which detail 100 years of Colorado history, and nearly 50 years of Nederland history. But the three train cars are more than impressive feats of late 1800s/early 1900s American ingenuity, they have also housed one of Nederland’s most charming and long running businesses.
Train Cars Coffee and Kava may have just opened in August of 2022, but business owner Jesse Fox and his staff have worked hard to preserve the coffee shop and cafe experience that locals love, while introducing exciting new menu items and events, like Kava mocktails and late-night live DJ shows called Bulas n’ Beats.
The 1872 Union Pacific Railroad post office car, donated to Nederland by the Denver Post, is used as a quaint sitting room that has hosted live poetry readings and events in the past, which Fox has brought back, as well as used the car to display the works of local Nederland artists.
The 1906 Pullman Coach dining car, retired by the Colorado and Southern Railroad in 1970 and moved to Nederland in 1975, still operates as it was originally intended, serving customers custom caffeinated drinks, sandwiches, and freshly made donuts with a variety of topping options.
Train Cars Coffee & Kava is open Monday through Sunday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Follow Train Cars Coffee & Kava on Facebook for more information and special event announcements: https://www.facebook.com/Thetraincars.
