More than a blog, it’s a mega mountain media hub of information

Posted

As summer kicks off and we begin to experience our usual increase of traffic to the mountains, it shares an influx of visitors to The Mountain-Ear website. There is a reason for this simultaneous spike in activity and it has been many years in the making.

In order to explain why a newspaper website is so powerful and searchable across every browser compared to a blog, we need to discuss some of the differences between the two. So to begin, we only need one word: Journalism.

Yes, The Mountain-Ear website is first powered by good journalism. Our website has thousands of articles covering the Peak to Peak region. The content created by our 40 journalists (25 paid and 15 volunteers), include stories and images documenting the people and businesses of our region over decades. Our team of experienced content creators add more to this platform every week with stories full of photos and detailed information with every article written. And, like all good journalists, we acknowledge and correct the inevitable errors that occasionally creep in.

In addition to the ever-growing community news articles we have available to visitors, we also have hundreds of stories highlighting our local attractions and events. This is another example of why The Mountain-Ear website is the most visited website in the area: our search power is all organic and has been building for over a decade, therefore impossible for a blog to duplicate.

We put a great deal of effort in providing well-written articles that not only contain factual information, but also interest readers and highlight the best parts of our mountain community. By having these standards, we ensure every page on our website is full of key words and phrases that work to drive people to it and keep them coming back to read more.

As with any community newspaper, we also offer a very visible classifieds section and stellar business directory. Every classified item placed in the paper gets a free listing on the website resulting in the ad being seen in print, online, and in the digital edition of the paper.

Our business directory is something we are particularly proud of. Every listing can be geared specifically to your business or service and is full of options. Businesses can include everything from links to social media and company sites to photos and full bio. Each listing has the option and can be used as an effective and powerful landing page to your entire online presence. If you send it, we can put it in. We even offer a free business profile and write-up for all new and existing businesses across the Peak to Peak.

In addition to the traditional journalism we honor at The Mountain-Ear, we pride ourselves in being the premier spot to see what’s going on in the mountains. Every local calendar from music, schools, and seniors is printed both online and in print weekly. Our information stays up to date and is free to submit. The music calendar is a very popular spot for the website and paper as each week we feature a new musician to go along with the listings.

In 2021 we launched our weekly podcast, “Everybody’s Listening.” The podcast is now in its third season and will soon reach our 100th episode. Each episode features the news of the mountains with interviews and stories all about our local mountain living. Just another way we continue to add valuable content to the mega mountain media hub, The Mountain-Ear website.
