To the citizens of Gilpin County,
This campaign season has been long and very active with many questions to the candidates, debates, forums, sign waving and meet and greets, but as election day approaches, I want the citizens of Gilpin County to know that I believe in the democratic process of “government of the people”. You will choose by your vote who will direct the future of Gilpin County. My commitment to you as Gilpin County Commissioner is a continuation to use your county taxes on needed services in a fiscally responsible way. I see a future with well maintained and improved roads, a recreation center with expanded daily access and expansion of bike trails and lanes. I also see a food pantry appropriately sized to fit the county’s true need, support for our seniors and day care services. My vision also includes a Gilpin County historical park that citizens can walk in the natural beauty of this area and experience its long history.
In the future I hope to facilitate and encourage cooperation between the cities and county jurisdictions to support financial viability and support safe and secure communities. To maintain the financial vitality of the county, I will continue to support a thriving gaming industry and other local commercial services. Since Gilpin County is close to the Denver Meto area, its growth and expansion will affect us and presents challenges that will conflict with maintaining the rural lifestyle that we now enjoy. My future decisions will focus on this objective.
A critical aspect of the lifestyle we enjoy in Gilpin County depends on a long term commitment to our first responders, our ambulance, fire protection emergency management, dispatchers, detention officers and of course the peace officers in the Sheriff’s Office.
In conclusion, it has been with great satisfaction I have served this county I have called home for forty-two years and with your help I look forward to serving you in the future.
Marie Mornis
Gilpin County Commissioner, District 1
