Dear Editor,
Thank you for the thoughtful coverage of the Gilpin County Commissioner Candidate Forum held on September 20, 2024, at the County Courthouse. Marie Mornis is NOT a voter-endorsed incumbent as implied by your coverage. She was never elected by the vote of the People of Gilpin County. Rather, she was appointed in December 2022 to fill out the term of Web Sill after he died in late November 2022.
She has publicly made many misrepresentations that negatively impugn the character and motives of the citizens she claims to want to represent, including that the 2020 election is still being litigated, that mail-in voting in this county is "full of fraud," and that taxes in this county are "too high.” Our taxes are literally the lowest in the state, our elections are run with integrity and precision, and the 2020 election has been shown to be one of the most accurate in American history, with over 60 lawsuits decided against the losing party, including many heard by judges they put in place.
I can't vote for liars. Sandy Hollingsworth has worked hard for our county as a commissioner and a volunteer for many organizations, listens to everyone who speaks to her with an open mind, and tells the truth. She has my vote and my gratitude.
