ROLLINSVILLE – On Halloween night, October 31, 2024, I had the chance to step into the world of pure terror at the Haunted Stage Stop in Rollinsville. And wow, what a bone-chilling experience!
For those that are unaware, the Stage Stop has been undergoing massive renovations, and though unusable for restaurant operations, the time was ideal for something like a haunted house to take over.
Spookygrass Productions pulled out all the stops for their final haunting season here, and I was thrilled — and thoroughly spooked — by every second. From sinister vampires lurking at the entrance to the chaotic roar of chainsaws chasing you out of the yard, every corner of the Haunted House was packed with surprises.
Laser-lit foggy rooms, eerie sheets forming creepy corridors, and moments where the only sound was the creak of the floor beneath my feet … It was the perfect Halloween night.
I must have screamed a dozen times as creepy characters jumped at me from out of the shadows!
But as the season of screams comes to a close, many in the community are left wondering what’s next for the Stage Stop and Spookygrass Productions?
According to Andy Reiner, the haunted masterminds will now shift their focus as the Stage Stop undergoes renovations. Once completed, the historic building is set to reopen as a pub, restaurant, and music venue — something us locals in Gilpin County are eagerly awaiting!
As for Spookygrass, they’re not quite sure where their next haunted adventure will be, but they’re open to ideas (especially if anyone has a genuinely haunted building).
After five years of spine-tingling, ghostly fun in the Peak to Peak region, from the Haunted Ferncliff in Allenspark to the Gold Hill Inn haunt, Spookygrass has built a unique community and an unforgettable series of haunts. Every year, they added something new, from spooky red flashlights to laser-swamped tents and even a zombie beer garden!
When the Haunted Stage Stop first opened in 2022, it was a dream come true for the Spookygrass team. They brought in eerie new props and crafted intricate experiences, with each year getting more elaborate.
Now, as we say goodbye to this haunt, there’s a sense that the spirits known to inhabit the Stage Stop have been part of the magic all along.
The final weekend was one for the books. Gold Dirt Distillery served Halloween-themed libations, DJ Godlaser spun tunes at Howlin’ Wind Brewery, and Toss Pizza served up a hungry crowd. It was the ultimate Halloween send-off.
This haunting chapter has come to a close, but the ghosts at the Stage Stop will continue the party, no doubt!
