Douglas Mountain Road blaze contained, structure lost

In a swift and coordinated response, emergency crews successfully contained a structure fire that broke out on Douglas Mountain Road late on the night of December 26, 2023. The fire, which was first reported at 9:30 p.m., fully engulfed a residence just off Robinson Hill Road.

As of the final update at 12:22 a.m. on December 27, firefighters managed to bring the blaze under control, and crews remained on the scene throughout the night to address any potential flare-ups. Sadly, the structure, believed to be vacant, is deemed a complete loss.

The flames spread to some trees around the perimeter of the house, the sheriff’s office said, but did not burn anything else.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, and authorities are expected to conduct an investigation to determine the origins of the incident.

The challenging terrain and location of the property posed difficulties in accessing the structure with water, hampering the firefighting efforts earlier in the night.

The Gilpin County Sheriff’s Office, Timberline Fire Protection District, Central City Fire Department, Black Hawk Fire Department, and Golden Gate Canyon Fire Department all collaborated in the response to the incident. Despite the intensity of the blaze, there have been no reported injuries at this time.

The community is grateful for the dedicated efforts of the first responders who tirelessly worked to protect the area. Their swift and effective response undoubtedly prevented further escalation of the situation.
