Clear Creek County is excited to announce its plans for the search of a new Sheriff beginning August 16, 2023. The Board of County Commissioners is seeking an interim Sheriff to serve as the chief law enforcement officer of the unincorporated areas of Clear Creek County. The Sheriff is responsible for maintaining the peace and enforcing the criminal laws of the state. The four municipalities in Clear Creek County include Idaho Springs, Silver Plume, Georgetown, and Empire.

The Board of County Commissioners will make selections for interviews based on candidates’ submitted letters of intent, qualifications, and résumés. These interviews will take place during the week of September 25. A Town Hall will take place on October 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the County Courthouse giving residents a chance to ask questions and to get to know the final candidates. Members of the media are welcome to attend.

It is the Board of County Commissioners’ intent to make a selection of the new Sheriff in mid-October. Once appointed, the new Sheriff will serve until the next General Election, taking place in November 2024.
