The CBDs have been playing in and around Boulder County for over 10 years. We are: Evan Cantor (acoustic guitar, harmonica, vocals), Burt Rashbaum (keyboards, vocals) and Roland LaForge (electric guitar, vocals).
After losing two dear members of the band family, Sharon Ferguson (our band wives’ den-mother) and Greg Staab (our longtime bassist), we took a break from performance and went into the studio to record our original music. We worked on 19 songs, figuring there would be out-takes, but at the end of the day, there wasn’t a single throwaway. So we have released what might nostalgically be called a “double album.” Remember when you used to clean seeds out of a dime bag on a double album cover like Pink Floyd’s Ummagumma? Well, maybe not… As “survivors of the 70s,” however, we remember it well.
What does that mean? It means that we knew plenty of folks who did not survive the 70s, much less the 60s. It was a wild and crazy time, but the music was timeless. It put its mark on all three of us, which is reflected in our approach to both performing and songwriting. In a nod to the “great American songbook,” we pursue a groovy mix of the “Great New American Hippie Songbook” with our own spin on old favorites, deep cut classic rock titles and huge repertoire of original music. We are a Folk-Rock Power Trio!
Our performance at the CD-Release party will, of course, feature numerous titles from the album. While the album is available to stream and download, we’ll be offering actual compact disc packages at the event (for half price, can ya believe it?). We hope to see you there!
