Two new police officers enthusiastically rang the old bell in the Council Chambers, marking the start of the Black Hawk City Council meeting on May 22 at 3 p.m. The officers, Kailey Crawford-Barrett, Police Officer I; and Levi Martson, Police Sergeant, were warmly introduced to the City of Black Hawk’s team.

Officer Crawford-Barrett shared her journey in the meeting agenda packet:

“I was born and raised in Las Vegas, Nevada, before joining the United States Army in August of 2016. Since then, I have lived in five states and was stationed at Buckley Air Force Base for my first duty station.

“In September of 2017, I gave birth to my son in Parker, Colorado, over the course of three days. Afterwards, I moved to Fort Carson to be with my current unit, 1st Space Brigade. The government decided... I mean, I decided that a summer camp in Iraq would be a fun adventure. While overseas, I earned my associate degree in Intelligence Operations Studies and have been accepted into the continuing bachelor’s program.

“I currently serve as the reserve intelligence section Non-Commissioned Officer In Charge.”

Crawford-Barrett was also introduced as a former member of the Special Response Team at Caesars Entertainment Casino.

Sergeant Martson joins Black Hawk from the Arvada Police Department, where he also held the rank of Sergeant. He brings specialized training that will be beneficial to the Black Hawk Police Force. He is married with a two-year-old daughter and enjoys going to the gym and spending time outdoors.

The meeting agenda packet noted:
