Base Camp on Highway 46, Golden Gate Canyon, across from the Gilpin County Community Center, has new owners. Lisa Singer and Ciara Salayandia purchased the property on March 17.
The site includes a gasoline station, a main building with a grocery store, 13 cabins, spaces for tents, mobile homes and trailers. They were inspired to purchase the property because they both love the outdoors, camping and being part of a robust community.
Singer is a nurse practitioner and real estate investor, and Salayandia is in real estate. They both live in Denver.
The main building includes laundry facilities, restrooms out back, Pickle Liquors with beer, wine and spirits. Singer said they have a full grocery store. They are open all year around but their main season is Memorial Day through Labor Day.
The cabins are fully decorated, and they provide the linens. Salayandia calls it glamping.
Base Camp is in an ideal location across from the Gilpin County Community Center, which has two pools, Singer said.
According to the Base Camp website, “we offer RV, cabins, and tent sites nestled between colorful aspens with beautiful mountain views. We are surrounded by amenities including; fishing, hiking, and biking trails at Golden Gate Canyon State Park, casinos at Black Hawk and Central City, indoor, year-round swimming with a water slide at the Gilpin County Community Center, and we are just off the Peak to Peak Scenic Byway for breathtaking Colorado views.
“Camping Cabins B-M offer heat and electricity and sleep up to four people. Each camping cabin features a double bed and bunk beds. Each camping cabin has a picnic table and a grill. A few of our camping cabins have a fire pit and a few of our camping cabins have a swing on the front porch.”
“Our tent sites provide a convenient location for your next outdoor experience. Our tent sites include a grill, fire pit, and picnic table.”
Singer said they are looking at expanding hot food selections such as pizza, donuts and fountain drinks. There is nothing like this around, Singer said. The nearest is a KOA, but Base Camp is family owned, has great employees and a great setting near Golden Gate State Park.
Base Camp covers Gilpin County and the tourists who come in. They have 11 employees and are hiring another cashier and grounds person.
They are open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. during winter hours, and 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. during summer hours. Check in is at 2 p.m. Check out is at 11 a.m.
