NEDERLAND - The sounds of woodwinds, brass, drums, and string instruments filled the auditorium at Nederland Middle-Senior High School on December 10, 2024, as the school's bands and orchestras performed their holiday concert.
Students from 5th through 12th grades participated in this winter concert. This was the fifth graders' first concert. They are just learning their instruments, but they played with confidence and their performance was impressive.
Some of the songs we heard were from fifth grade were “Au Claire de la Lune” (orchestra) and the classic beginner band tune “Hot Cross Buns.” The sixth graders joined the fifth graders as the orchestra played “Pirates of the Caribbean,” and the band, “Wenceslas Variants.”
The middle and high school orchestra played a number of tune, including “Dragon hunter,” “A Very Viola Christmas,” and “Today.” At times the orchestras played together, sometimes separately. Each provided a unique sound.
Christine Mallery is the director of the youngest band musicians and all the orchestras. Liz Evans directs the bands at the middle and high school level.
The middle school band played “Percussion on Parade” and “Wonka.” The high school band played pop tunes like “Call Me Maybe” and “Hey, Soul Sister.” The bands came together to play the festive holiday tune “Pachelbel’s Carols.”
It was an evening where the students were able to showcase for their family and friends their hours of practicing. Students and audience left the auditorium full of holiday spirit.
Happy Holidays!
