The Holistic Homestead is known for believing “Health starts at home.” Home is, generally, where one lives permanently, where one grew up, and sometimes home becomes a place one has never been.
Located in front of the main entrance to the Gilpin County Community Center is the Gilpin County Farmers Market (GCFM), where you can learn more about your food than anywhere else.
Farmers Markets provide businesses opportunities to network and offer patrons the chance to meet and talk to the farmers that grow their food. However food isn’t the only thing you can purchase at a farmers market.
From locally made crafts to home cooked meals and everything in between, you can find it all at your local farmers market. At the GCFM, you can enjoy entertainment, including live music and face painting.
“It takes A LOT of work to plan and put on a Farmers Market, from attracting vendors to booking musicians, but we will keep doing the hard work because we believe Gilpin County deserves a Farmers Market that is representative of the unique talents and interests of our whole community in a location that is central and accessible to everyone,” shares Arwen Ek, Founder and Executive Director of the Holistic Homestead.
So, why does Gilpin County need a farmers market? Farmers markets are proven to uplift the health and wealth of their community. They stimulate the local economy, preserve farmland and rural livelihoods, and increase access to healthy foods, to name a few.
The GCFM is looking for local business sponsors, artisans of all types, and direct donations to their fundraising campaign, “Save the Farmers Market.” Donations and sponsorships help pay for print advertising, banners, and hiring local artists.
Information about nutrition and mental health is another great perk about the GCFM. The GCFM also offers something you can’t buy: Hope, the hope to make the world a healthier place, and it starts at home in Gilpin County.
Home can also be a friendly smile, happy people, positive energy, healthy food, and a great atmosphere. More than anything, home is a feeling. On the first Saturday of every month, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., you too can feel at home.
The Gilpin County Farmers Market is located at 250 Norton Drive, Black Hawk. You can find them on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/theholistichomestead or you can give them a call at 303-582-3001.
