How to Place an Obituary

Click Here to Submit an Obituary Online

After your loved one passes away, you have so many contractual details to deal with, like home, finances, burial and funeral arrangements, the last thing you want to think about is placing an obituary in your local paper, but doing so is very important. A published obituary can be used in many cases with insurance companies and creditors to help prove the official death of a loved one, as well as letting all of your neighbors, friends and loved ones know of the passing in an efficient manner.

Although this may seem like an insurmountable task, The Mountain-Ear can help. We have a simple form to help you get started. We can put it all together into a story format for you. The cost to place an obituary is $25. That includes a photo and 750 words. Need an extended obituary? No problem. We can do that too. We can help make the process as simple as possible, for you and your family. To get your forms, more information and to see examples of published obituaries, please email publisher@themountainear.com.

9’s A Pair

PHOTO COURTESY OF 9’S A PAIR

9’s A Pair started out as a joke between firefighters who worked at Station 9 in Denver, Colorado. Multiple firefighters at the station realized that they played instruments, including the captain of the station, Ron Weber. They started a jam session together one day while waiting for an emergency call, and over 15 years later, they are proud to call themselves a cover band.

The band went through a few name changes before finally sticking to 9’s a Pair. The name came from a dispatching command that means that both companies hosted under the firefighting station were being sent to the same place.

The band intentionally chose to stick to covers early on in their tenure instead of performing original songs. They perform everything from 60s rock to 80s pop to modern-day music of all genres. While they consider themselves primarily a rock cover band, they’re happy performing whatever music entertains their audience.

9’s a Pair consists of guitarist Weber, second guitarist Dan Oliver, lead vocalist and bassist Reef Abbott (who is the only member who still works at Station 9), drummer Paul Kaaren (who is the only non-firefighter of the group), and technician Rich Oliver.

Dan Oliver cites their camaraderie as one of the best and most important aspects of the band, as most of them understand what it’s like to be a firefighter and have worked in the same station. They love being able to give each other a smile after the show and acknowledge how well (or possibly how terribly) it went.

Most of all, the band loves feeding off each other during shows and being able to see people appreciate art that they’ve worked their whole life to create. They love being able to entertain an audience, and who knew that all of this would have started from a completely different profession?

9’s A Pair will be performing at Last Stand Tavern, 32138 Highway 72 on Coal Creek Canyon Road in Golden, on Saturday, January 29 at 5 p.m. You can also visit their Facebook, YouTube, and website (9sapair.com).
