Businesses usually start out of a necessity, whether it’s to fill a hole in a community or to fulfill a personal desire or need. In the case of Elevated Impressions, a printing business located in Black Hawk, Nicole and Anthony Zotti started the business together to prevent Anthony from commuting eight hours a week just to go to work.

Nicole has a BS in Business Administration from the University of Colorado in Denver, and Anthony has years of experience in artistic creation, and attended the Colorado Institute of Art.

Anthony was burned out after working in the same home automation industry for 20 years and had fallen in love with screen printing after working in a print shop in Denver. Starting a printing business has always been at the back of his mind, and on March 17, 2021, that dream became a reality when Nicole found a Coal Creek Canyon resident, Dave Pence, selling his own printing business on Facebook.

As described by Nicole, Elevated Impressions is “a family run, passion driven screen printing and graphic design shop operating at 8829’ above sea level in beautiful Gilpin County, Colorado.” Printing by hand, their goal is to create high-quality screen printing and graphic design products (which their son Miles sometimes helps design) and to assist businesses, clubs, and nonprofits in bringing their brand to the next level.

They can print on any merchandise, such as clothing, hats, and bags, and they like to work one on one with their clientele and guide them from start to finish through their design. While businesses like Custom Ink take part of the cut from the printers that make the shirts that customers design online, there is no middle man in Elevated Impressions; they create the product with the customer and make sure they are satisfied with the end result.

Looking to expand to paper printing and embroidery within the next year, Nicole and Anthony are proud to “create and not exploit,” saying that starting local businesses is incredibly helpful for keeping people local and allowing them to support smaller businesses instead of traveling to towns in order to buy what they need.

The business has already invested in a new press to offer clients more colors, and Nicole and Anthony look forward to continuing to expand their business beyond the Peak to Peak, Boulder, and Denver areas.
